i need someone who knows what they are talking about cuz im really dumb its probably the age im 16. I need a list of some this to put in your engine to make your car go fast, i have a 1975 280z so hit me with ur tips

#2 ·
okay, buy a factory service manual first. Read the ENTIRE thing, and when someone can point at any part in your engine you can tell them exactly what it's called and what it does, THEN you can come back and ask for parts that make the car go fast. Don't flame me guys, I got my Z when I was 16 too.

BUT, for now, just read posts. search the 'net for more info. You have to know how a car works to fix it. You have to know how a car works to make it go faster.

You made a good decision bying a z car. You're not dumb, just like all of us you will be learning as you go.
Start with a cold air induction (There is one on ebay)http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33659&item=2406429505&rd=1
Upgrade your ignition with an msd box
head polish and porting
high perf cam
header
high perf. injectors
and if you can afford it a turbo!
Thant should do most of it.
Email me if you need details

Just enjoy your z car

I agree with these guys, I didnt even know how to change my oil when I got my z (also 16) Ive learned alot from these guys and reading the fsm and others. I'm almost 18 now and working on a turbo swap. If anybody really wants to check I'm sure I made a few stupid posts a couple years back.

Yeah i heard that really neat neon lights under the car makes them go really fast too... Hey young'n Cache is right. Get to know your Z inside and out then when you have a good understanding of what your Z can and can't do then you'll know where to start.

Hey NitroBoarder, Seriously if I were you I would Learn as much about your car as you can. Read the message Board questions and answers, You will learn a lot just by doing that. I would also suggest that you go and by a Haynes repair Manual for your Z. You will then be able to read and see what will be involved with whatever changes you want to make to the car. You also should do a lot of research on Parts and prices, it will save you a lot of time and money in the long run. You guy's had me Rolling on the floor with your cracks on 280z1975b16 but remember, Everybody started out not knowing a thing about there car. Nitroboarder, Remember these guys on here have a lot of knowledge to share Don't Diss Them if you want them to Hook you up. If you keep Diss'n these guys You and Your car will be Mad Pimp Jacked up at your Crib, Wondering why nobody will help you out.

Re: MONEY..MONEY..MONEY..MONEY..

first of all....dont be a smart ass, youll just discorrage good advice (im not saying you are....)

at any rate, go to Z
Car Creations LLC. and get a FSM on your car.
next read up. Drive the car as much as you can, practicing good starts, and then moving on to faster shifting. As a side note many people dont realize that the best shift point on a car is not the red line. A z car starts losing power after 4500rpms becuase of the camsaft profile. This can be fixed with a performance camsaft...head porting and so on. While you are working on your driving skills make sure the car is running right by doing a tune up as it says in the FSM. You'd be surprised how much of a difference this can make, and how many cars arent running right at all.

Also read just about everything on my links page Here.

There are many different great sources on that page that will help you learn a lot about the car, and just cars in general. Once you are done with all this, well the path to follow is all up to you and your $. I personally feel that a turbo motor is the best bang for the buck way to go, but others will argue. But by far the best thing to do is drop a built chevy 350 with aliuminum heads and a 6 speed transmission from a dodge viper or 90's camero into the car. But that costs money, how much do you have?

Geez people, don't flame the guy just because he's not a freakin' mechanical genius. All he's doing is asking for advice. 280z1975B16, the list in dats280z's post is a good thing to do research on. If it runs butter smooth and doesn't need anything done, get an new exhaust from the manifold back with just a pipe and straight through muffler(assuming you don't live in california or some state with strict inspections and car-hating laws). Mine is pretty much stock(power-wise) and a new exhaust (2.25 in pipe with magnaflow muffler) and home-made cold air made a much bigger difference than i thought it would. That's probably the best no-brainer thing to start with, and you get a free small gas mileage increase with it. After that, you'll need to think ahead a little for the next mod, you can decide how much hp you want(err, reasonably i mean) and look up all the parts and see what fits your budget. Just be polite when you post(not accusing you or anything) and most of these guys will tell you anything you want to know.

Later.

Mitch

amen slightly imperfect...many of us have been on this board for a few years helping out others and just plain chatting most of the time. If you would like to join the community then great....if not then "Who cares buddy, um I don't...." Your messages will fall on deaf ears like slightly imp. said.

Re: I will point this out....

dexter is right, if you are an @!#$ to people you will get NOTHING but a bunch of F- yous when you have a question. show respect! theres nothing you can safely do to your car to make it fast without knowing anything about your car besides intake and exhaust. do as much research as possible before you attempt anything like a turbo, head work, or pistons.

suspension first, horsies later

check out the mods on this 280ZX.... most importantly look at all the suspension and brake upgrade. the RIGHT way to mod any vehicle is to start with the suspension.......then when that is built to handle the higher horsies do you work on the power improvements.

From Experience

I'll tell you from experience, cussing people out is not the way to get what you want. I'm a youngin (14.) I got my car about 3 months ago. Before I ever got it, I spent countless hours reading up on different things. I could name a lot of stuff on my Z the day I got it. I got the FSM about a month later and read up on that. I'll tell you, I don't know everything, but I know quite a bit about my engine.

An old trick my dad taught me, turn the cover for your Air Filter upside down, or if it won't fit, cut a piece that'll hold the air filter down. Once you get on that baby, it'll roar (if sound is what you want.) It doesn't sound rice, sounds deep and powerful. If you don't have money to redo your exhaust, but want more than stock, cut off the tail-pipe right behind (back) the muffler. It won't be straight, so it'll pass emissions, but it'll sound pretty good.

Anyway, as everyone have said, there's people on this site who will be more than happy to help you out if you've got the right attitude. Remember, this ain't school where you can talk sh*t to get what you want.

Tony
