240Z vs Datsun Roadster

Does anyone have an opinion on the Datsun Roadster? I've never seen one in person nor have ever ridden in an old British roadster that might be comparable. I am begining to take a liking for these cars, specifically the 2000. How does a '67+ 2000 Roadster compare to a '71 Z in terms of handleing, performance, enjoyment, etc... Would I be crazy to sell my 240Z for a 2000 Roadster?

well ill give my opinion here id stay with the 240z but the 2000 is a really cool car and you dont see many at all. the hes with it keep the 240z and add the 2000 to your collection if you can do it but i wouldnt sell my 240 for a 2000 just my 2 cents

A four banger with a poor suspension. Only thing going in favor of the roadster is no roof. You would be crazy to sell a 240Z (always in a 10best list) for a car that is on no ones "best" list.

Part availability and performance for money spent leans heavily in favor of the 240. If you're **** bent on getting a roadster, buy a Miata.

I've got a 67 1/2 Roadster but haven't driven it yet since I am in the process of installing a vg30et. One neat thing about them is having a solid frame so you can lift the body off. Here is a good site for the Roadsters: http://311s.org/ I hope mine looks as good as this one when I am finished: http://rabbit.circa.ufl.edu/gallery/vg30/aat Norm

I like em both.

The 67 2000 is impossible to find BTW...

I would hold on to the 240Z over a roadster. The Roadsters are VERY expensive to operate. It'll cost way more to get any part for a roadster that a 240Z besides the rear drum of course!

Personally I like the 68 and 69 high window 2000 roadsters. The 2000 has a reinforced frame and descent suspension. You can easily setup the roadster to preform as well as a Z ever could. It will definately cost more. All roadsters have a X member built into the frame. The later Roadsters from like 66 on have a anti axle wrap bar. The 67s had a better brake system.

Check out Bob Sharps Roadster Race Prep book. Released for free on the net.

The 2000 w/solex option had the same power as the Z...

They are both very good race inspired platforms to start with.

The roadster that showed up at one of the autocross events I was at posted better times than all the z cars that were there. It seemed to turn on rails.

There was a roadster with a turboed KA motor (not an SR20) on ebay. If the parts availability drags you down, there are several good nissan motor swaps out there...

I had a 68 2000 that I built with dome pistons, fat cam, dual 45 webbers, headers etc. I would knock a stock 240,260,280 off the line until about 90mph. I loved it and it was always a real head turner.... However, all that being said, I love Z's and bought myself a black pearl 280 and traded the roadster to guy who had built '77 280 with a 3.1 stroker.

Parts are readily available and for the most part fairly priced. I would love to have another one, one of these days.....

I do miss the roadster but it made my lower back hurt and since I'm fair skinned having a coupe is better than skin cancer....

Here is a pic of it....
