I have a 1982 280zx n/a with a problem. It starts and runs for about a 1 second and then shuts off. Its like the fuel injectors are not getting a signal to go they have pawer going to them and all of the componets in the efi system that I can check seem to be fine I have tested every thing that I think I can test and still no go. Don't Know if this helps to but if you hit the gas it dies even faster. And I can run a hot wire to the cold start and as long as I tap the cold start it will run ruff but it runs. If any one has had this problem and might be able to help you input would be a big help to me thank you - mike

Maybe we need to know the procedure you used to check some of these? It really sounds like fuel pressure to me. use a gauge between the filter and rail Ithink the specs call for 32psi. also try to start it and see if that holds. Sounds like the filter is clogged or the fuel pump does not create enough pressure! It may run but not pump enough. See if AutoZone will rent/loan you a gauge.
Enjoy the Ride!

I was asked about the pressure regulator and it checks out so I guess I have fuel pressure. I am getting fuel to the fuel rail and the Injectors and I have voltage there also all the conponets of the Injection system check out according to the haynes manual test and check that you can run. Just for some reason after I start it and after the cold start value fires to start the car for some reason the 6 main injectors don't take off and the car stumbles and dies.

Read pages 108 - 109 in Haynes # 28014.

Fig 4.8 shows a home made NOID light or you can buy one for ~ $4.00. Remove an injector connector and install the light in the socket. Crank the engine over and the light should blink each time the ECU trys to fire the injectors.

Well, er, the main injectors BETTER "take off" if your engine is gonna run. The cold start is just a chock substitute when it's cold and not even needed in the summer for your engine to start and run.

So, just how did you check the pressure regulator?
If you "guess" you have fuel pressure, you have done nothing to elimate that as a possibility. Unless you can mark a sub-system off as good, there is NO WAY to keep going down a flowchart to a solution. "Guessing" that something is OK is worse than guessing that it still could be the problem. A potato in the tailpipe is a viable answer from all we can tell from here....

Take it into a shop, dude.

no the first thing I did was buy a new ecu because my injectors are getting gas and plenty of it. thats why I thoght it was a brain or wiring problem. Right now I am leaveing work to go home and start checking the wiring plug that hooks to the ecu to see if it is or is not getting a signal to it and if it is not try to tell from which componet and why. I just wanted to KNow if any one had ever run into the same type of problem where all the stuff checks out in to operation specs. but the injectors don't take off and start the car at idle.
